Help with hair drying?

My hair never seems to dry, I take showers every other day at around 4 or 5 o'clock, and when I wqke up the next morning and even closer towards lunch time my hair is still damp.
My hair also likes to poof up when drying, is that because I am using a brush instead of a wide tooth comb?
