In reading about cults and religious movements I've noticed a theme of male leaders manipulating women into believing their only role in life is to obey and serve men. For example, the FLDS teach that men can essentially become gods by taking multiple wives, and live on after death, yet there are no teachings about what happens to women after death at all. They only exist to increase the power of a man through marriage.
In many examples, most children born into these groups have little to no interaction with teachings from the outside world. They aren't exposed to societal sexism or gender stereotypes through media, only the sexism that exists within their groups teachings. So it should be possible for this dynamic to be flipped. A boy could be born into a group that teaches that a man's role is to serve women. Without exposure to external gender stereotypes, there would be no reason for them to question this dynamic.
Are there any documented examples of this happening? I imagine there are small cults where this might happen, possibly based around sex, but I'm interested in larger religious groups that aim to manipulate through religious teachings or prophets? I'd be interested to see if it worked, or if not, why it failed.
