It's an instinct. Natural selection via sexual selection is a huge part of what we're evolved for, and it's the females role in sexual selection to decide who's genes pass on to the next generation. Genetic testing tells us that very often, that's not her husband. Historically speaking. Also, genetic testing tells us that that is the case in other apes, and in monkeys as well. The instinct of the man with inferior genes to give in to it is obviously designed to increase the prevalence of better, stronger genes. Once a man realizes that he has less to offer sexually or genetically, sometimes a switch flips in the mans brain and suddenly no matter how painful or upsetting it is, he wants to make his woman happy by letting her take this and more. It's a form of female sexual power and conquest of her partner, making him ensure the advancement of her dna and superior genetics at the cost of ending his. This allows her greater genetic success, and while it doesn't serve his evolutionary interests at all in any way, it is very beneficial to hers. It's the human equivalent to when a bug eats it's mate, but more wholesome and less messed up. The man is evolved to be a helpless participant in the destruction of his own bloodline, and the woman usually takes part in this behavior knowing that is what she is doing and loving every moment of it. That my friends is evolution.
