getting static/popping during playback.

I am new to Cubase, so far I really like the software. I'm new to DAWs in general, I've dabbled in Studio One and Garage Band but Cubase seems to be the one I've adapted to most easily. I have Cubase Elements 10. Anyways, I have a fairly new and computer with a 3.7 ghz processor. I believe the sound card is just built into the mobo though. I'm getting some static and popping during playback. I tried adjusting me buffering but it didn't seem to help much. Any suggestions? Would it behoove me to get a dedicated sound card?
