Cubase crashes when loading channels while opening certain projects

It seems to only crash for projects that use EWQL libraries. It's been a couple years since I've installed Play 4 and the libraries that I'm not sure if anything has changed. I tried doing a repair with the Play 4 installer. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I'm using Cubase 8.0.40 on a Windows 8.1 computer.

EDIT: I have narrowed it down to the Play program, as I tried launching that VST without a DAW, and it crashes when loading an instrument, so this actually isn't even a problem that's related to Cubase. I'll leave this up for now just in case someone has any ideas.
