How to get Private Rank 2?

So, before the 6/3 update you needed to be private rank 2 to play mm. I have a friend that has played a lot of Valorant and has been wanting to give cs a whirl, so last night I thought I'd show them the ropes in unranked.
The only problem is that when we went to play, it said they needed to be private rank 2, which shouldn't be possible for free to play accounts anymore, right? How can we fix this? I don't want them to get flamed on community servers or faceit for not knowing callouts and such.
