Having moved recently to a new job I find the way my new team sprints as odd and I was wondering how other teams organise their sprints.
Originally, as part of a team of 6 people (at a fairly small tech firm), every team member was involved in each stage i.e. sprint planning, story times, planning poker (using units instead of hours), short daily stand-ups... There was a large backlog with many items in the backlog scoped out with clear acceptance criteria.
Having moved to a tech department of a multi national company, the developers aren't always involved in sprint planning/story times/planning poker (using hours instead of units) and instead sometimes only the project manager, business analyst and lead developer are involved in these. The stand-ups can drag on with people going into detail. The backlog items don't have acceptance criteria and sometimes a sprint begins without all the backlog items scoped out.
Recently, a backlog item in the sprint was scoped out a few days before the end of the sprint and I was tasked to complete this. However, I wasn't able to complete this as I was still finding my way around the codebase, learning new things such as unit testing, that were required and helping another new starter.
Is it reasonable for me to feel annoyed at this way of working?
How does your team sprint?
