Do you still use the pre-inflation average developer's salary during negotiations in the current inflation-filled economy? The official current inflation, AFAIK, is at 10% in Germany (40% inflation in groceries though). If you do ask for a higher salary than the old averages on websites like Glassdoor / Payscale / Techpays, how do you add the inflationary value? Do you do it pre-tax or post-tax?
I realised that if I try add 10% more money post-tax (netto), the pre-tax (brutto) value goes up by more than 10%, at around 12% . I don't know if it's fair to ask for that. What do you think?
Example:
Pre-inflation ask: 38,351 EUR / yr . Post-inflation ask: 42,198 EUR / yr (Netto) -> 10% increase
In order to get 10% increase in netto, the below 12.2% increase in brutto is required.
Pre-inflation ask: 65k EUR/yr / Post-Inflation ask: 72,950 EUR / yr (Brutto) -> 12.2% increase
And do you think it's fair to ask for a higher salary due to inflation to sustain the current standard of living even though we earn more the the average worker already and the 10% inflation won't make a huge problem for us even if we don't ask for more money?
