Currently making $70k first job. Should I stick it out for a year or look for better opportunities while I work

Post Body

Currently working my first Software engineering job, itโ€™s for the govt, benefits are really good. Currently live in VA close to DC, rent is $1700. Should I chill for a while and gain experience, or should I look for a higher compensating job, or a job that will allow me to learn more useful skills?

When I say more useful skills, I mean that because currently we use some outdated stuff, and the codebase is really old. We have to deliver software via discs still.

Another reason is I would rather live in a different area, such as either further north east or on the west coast.

So far Iโ€™ve got about 5 months of experience under my belt. How much experience do I need to look for better opportunities?

It should also be worth noting that I graduate with my CS degree in December. I will be staying put until at least then.
