Accidentally made a git commit message relating to my side project on company repo. Can they own it now?
Post Body

Sorry for the stupid question...

So I'm WFH at a small software agency. I'm salary, but work for clients where we charge by the hour, so I track my time.

Halfway through my shift I took a ~2 hour break to work on my side project. I had all my employer related stuff in a separate screen. After finishing up I closed all my stuff out and finished work.

Next day at work and I realize oops. Somehow I made a commit message relating to my personal project on a client repo. and it's a bit obvious that it's a side project. and there's no way to remove it since I pushed it to the remote.

So... if they see this, they could probably claim that I was using company time to work on personal projects?

I know people here aren't lawyers, but.. I'm just wondering how fucked I am.

  1. I never signed any contracts. I just started working and getting paid.
  2. I track my billable hours. As long as I put in a solid 8 hours of billable time for the client I should be okay?
  3. I purchased all the equipment with my own money.
  4. He's said he doesn't mind me working on personal projects. but again. this is all verbal. zero signed contracts.

Any thoughts on this situation? Other than swing shifts obviously aren't a good idea?
