Currently I work at a call center in the financial services field and have worked there for about a year and a half (as a contractor and full time employee). In theory, I love the financial services field, but the only jobs I have had offers for are for call center jobs, despite getting a business degree already. We have been getting back to back phone calls with little room to take notes or take a breather. Further they created a whole new quality matrix that watches everything you do. When I started out they seemed to care about quality, now it is all about numbers, numbers, numbers, which to a certain extent I get, but it is honestly a bit overwhelming. I also have a license test coming up and so I want to stay for that, but if I fail, they will fire me if I fail 2 times,so I am trying to think ahead and it seems like so far no one wants to touch me (except other call centers or retail).
I have been taking classes online for a programming certificate and will have that done in the fall from a CC. Once I get that I am thinking of taking more online classes through a university that will have me take most my classes online. I have been programming on and off for about 4 years for fun, and honestly I really enjoy it, but the only thing that kept me back were math requirements, but I learned I can do most of it through tests, so I feel a little bit bolder. I am thinking of taking about 6 months to a year off and pursue this path. I am also in my mid 20's with no kids. I might try to apply to internships next summer, but more than likely I want to take summer classes to finish up. Any thoughts or pointers as currently I feel like I am getting shit offers. (I also have tried to apply to programming jobs to no avail).
