Advice Change from Developer to Product Management
Post Body

Hi,

I am a Software Engineer for about two years and I have a technical background in computer science (BSc and MSc). In the first year/year and half I was very enthusiastic about pushing new projects forward, I learned various technologies.... but I always assumed a demi-PO role in the team: I helped define the projects' timeline, helped defining the Story Map and the Vision, groomed the backlog and was accountable to have the stories prioritised and refined. I also enforced tracking the team's sprint progress.

I like to program, but to be honest I always see myself five years from now in a role where I do not code. And whenever things get rough in the company or a setback in the development, I kind of always think in what if scenarios.

What is your advice? Should I change to another career path in the Product Management space? Even though I have never had the "oficial" product ownership/management experience? This is quite hard since I would kind of throw away experience in the development track for an opportunity that I don't know if it will suit me or not. And of course I am not in love with the development part but I find it interesting.

And with this whole coronavirus situation, it will be even harder to find a job if things do not work out in the new job adventure.
