1st year Uni student, conflicted about portfolio

Hi,
I got into programming making games as a kid, im now a 1st year software engineering student and im trying to start building a portfolio.
I have not particular area im trying to enter (but the less ui desgin the better) and i cant decide what i should make
would a pacman clone built from scratch using opengl be worth it?
just any help with any of this would be appreciated thanks
