Some background: I graduated college in 2021, had a brief stint as a freelance developer in a development team using the MEAN stack, where I mostly did back end development. Fast forward to after my contract, and I found a junior position with a startup. Imagine my horror when I discovered that I would be the ONLY in house developer for this entire company for WordPress. "That's fine, whatever, at least I'll learn wirdpress at a more technical level. Spoiler alert: I did not learn nearly as much as I would have liked to. My job responsibilities shifted from making minor CSS changes and implementing small features to managing outsourced development projects that are outside the realm of my knowledge. I have not had a single code review in my well over a year of my time with the company, and fear I am falling behind my peers. I'm looking to hone my skills within a particular tech stack by building a portfolio I would then use to apply for fullstack positions. Today, what tech stack would you learn and use to make a portfolio?
Edit: I should probably note that in a typical 40 hour work week, I would be lucky to spend 10% of my time writing code. The rest I'd help desk type work, project planning and management, and general sdministration work (clearly not what I signed up for)
