I got this game when it was released and got frustrated with it. Playing again now and having more fun.

Played as the hautevilles, ended up swearing fealty to the byzantine empire for a bit of extra protection, even though they’re not catholic. My leige demanded i convert at some point… eh whatever no big deal right? Somehow got control of Jerusalem and was soo close to consecrating my bloodline… then died before the level 5 virtue.

Fast forward the byzantine empire collapsed but I am still thriving. However due to marriage and stuff my ruler is now catholic. This is where my decision from many generations ago has come to bite me in the ass. An orthodox uprising! Lost sicily (the island). Eventually got it back but went into massive debt and had to disband all my men at arms.

Not sure if I will play till 1400 since my trajectory has taken a hit but next play through I’m gonna crush it.
