65 is my group and I have been doing CrossFit for 7 years. I started training to qualify 6 months before the Open
They do test but only for the top 3. Creatine and protein powder are my only supplements
Not enough to cover my travel/hotel/food/fees. We started looking for sponsors 2 months ago. I hope more next year
I was in the fence about coming and had to spend time thinking before I committed. So many friends and ppl in my box are excited for me and have helped make it possible I needed to come.
$2500 is for travel/airbnb/food/fee which is $350 as you mentioned
And congratulations on making Birmingham!
Thank you! The goal is now to keep it going and not get hurt
Not really. I played golf until I was 50 and always walked the links when I played but nothing really ‘athletic’. I needed something knew so at 57 I started CrossFit. Now Crossfit is my therapy
There is a chance but the workouts don’t play to my strengths. All I can do is my best.
When and where are you competing? Adaptive athletes are badass!! What’s your story?
At my age recover is a big concern. I would either do a regular class or would come and work on lifts/movements that need attention. Never more than 90 minutes daily. I wish I could do more but at 65 the body needs its recovery time and overworking makes you susceptible to injury.
I’m from Dallas so Birmingham weather is familiar to me. A little more humid I think but not a big adjustment plus only one event takes us outside the arena and that’s a run.
To be honest I don’t really know/follow other athletes. I’m just a 5 day a week/go to class guy. What’s your friends name? I’ll introduce myself.
I don't track any of those things I just try not to eat things I know are considered unhealthy.
Thanks for the ‘good luck’! I’ll do my best.
I disagree with your idea that only young elites are Games athletes. We are considered Games athletes because we compete with athletes our own age across the world and the top 20 in the world then compete in what is labeled The Crossfit Games.
I think YouTube is steaming it but I'm not sure.
It has been so beneficial, physically and mentally. I will never stop doing Crossfit but competing part of it may fade.
It took a few years to get comfortable then some time to work on specifics like MU’s and handstand walks. I usually just went to classes and developed from there. Thank you!
His death was preventable and devastating. I believe it was a poorly planned event with substandard safety precautions.
I didn't know that. I thought it was anyone winner prize money.
Safe travels and good luck to you friend!
The kit was pretty cool but the shoes were more a take home thing and not a wear to compete design. I’m satisfied with what we were handed. A backpack would have been cool but no complaints.
I believe something like 80% of all Crossfit participants are of Masters age so I believe it’s relevant that Masters get attention. Your and fit is cool but older and fit is cooler :)
I weigh 165. I understand not doing RX. I do what I feel is right for me. I work on gymnastics at least twice a week because i enjoy it. I know it takes time so I try and be patient. I see a little improvement all the time.
No to both. I just go to Crossfit class 5 or 6 days a week. I make it a point to try and not miss workouts with movements I need to improve.
None leading up to the Games that I know of

I’m ranked #3 in my age and I don’t get much. I get free gear and some travel cash from businesses and friends but I don’t have big sponsors yet.
