I’m no expect but diet is where I started. Drink more water. My routine is every time I pee I drink a glass of water. Clean up the diet and up the water intake. Start slowly by walking and maybe some squats. Good luck to your dad. Anyone can do this.

I don’t find it hard on my joints but it’s a different kind of recovery from cardio. I try and not push it too far
