I've noticed nearly all granny square blanket patterns use aran weight yarn. I'd like to make a granny square blanket or something like what's linked below using Bernat Blanket. Is there a reason not to, and is there a reason why most blankets with lots of joining use weight 4 yarn? My reason for using Bernat Blanket is so it will work up faster since it's larger and of course it will be softer.
