Say one is making a garment and the pattern lists gauge (whatever it may be), and you don’t match the gauge, so you then switch hooks by sizing up or down…… My question is this: yarn usually lists what size hook u need, so if trying to match gauge for a pattern can u use whatever size hook works to match even if it’s not listed as the correct sized hook for that particular yarn? TIA 🙏❤️❤️
Thanx so much for ur help!! But Wait- per ur example “gauge: 18 hdc = 4 inches, you should b making a 5’ square”
Shouldn’t it b a 4’ since that what gauge states? Not 5’?
Also, say the yarn required is listed on yarn label as #4 weight yarn which requires a 5.0 mm hook, but in order to match the pattern gauge I have to use a smaller hook, say 4.0 or 4.5, is that ok that I’m using a different size hook than what’s required on the yarn label?
Is it?!!??! Good to know. Is it ok if, when I have a gauge question, I message u plz?
