Is it possible to do a top down sweater pattern using crocodile stitch?

I’m going to be making a sweater for my son and thought he might like the look of the crocodile stitch but I’ve only ever done top down sweaters and it looks like you start at the bottom when doing crocodile stitch. Is there a way I can make this work? Maybe do DC for the yolk and then go to the bottom for the crocodile stitch and work up from there?
