[Spoilers E83] An Interesting thought in regards to the deaths of VM Enemies
Post Body

It's been interesting these past two years to watch our beloved adventurers grow more and more powerful. I'd like to take this time to analyze the deaths of various Enemies of Vox Machina (The Boss' and Lieutanents or rather of some of them) and if you bear with me you'll see a strange occurrence happening, which is why I think this story is so amazing.

1) Clarota: We all remember the young brave Illithid that sought revenge against those that cast him out. But let's examine his death shall we. While we can never be sure of Clarota's intentions I truly doubt he would have betrayed VM by himself, instead once he reconnected to the Hive Mind in the Temple did he end of betraying those he had allied himself with.

So the betrayed became the betrayer and died for it.

2) Count Tylieri: An initial betrayer of the De Rolo family, Tylieri was Captain of the Whitestone Guard. The wiki describes him as a slimy man with thinning hair. Once trusted with keeping both (De Rolo's and Briarwoods) of his masters safe he indulged himself in a rather cruel and sadistic hobby of torture, indicated by what was found in his home. Later it was discovered that he was a vampire, turned by the Briarwoods no doubt. He fell at the hands of Trinket (Head torn apart) and then evaporated into Mist by Keyleths Sunbeam spell. For a Vampire, that spell may be the most horrific end that Tylieri might imagine for himself. So the Torturer died a death most brutal. Even if he deserved it.

3) Saudnor: “Why do you come here, children of the lost? What purpose brings you to Saundor's madness and pain?” An interesting quote all things considering, Saundor was an Arch-Fey that had been betrayed and then forgotten by 'his lover.' He resided in the Shademirk Bog, corrupting it. But now his prized possession has seen new light, Fenthras now wielded by Vex'ahlia no longer brings corruption, but hope. “You all come here, but one of you is the reason. You… sweet, broken Vex'ahlia. Unwanted daughter, unproven ally, selfish and cruel—you drive those you would call family into danger and death for your own gain. I understand you."

[There's a softness and sadness to his face.]

"You are lost, without form, without knowing who you are, child. You stand shattered by expectation, presenting an illusion of confidence. Behind it, you never left that bloodied girl, dagger in hand, body at your feet. You are a killer, run as you may. The tears you cry are not in vain, my sweet… my dear Vex'ahlia. You can rise above your trembling destiny. I have lived a thousand years and a day. I have seen many things; I can grant many gifts.”

These words may have been true at one time, but I doubt Laura would say they, sure the initial truth of what she has done in her past is still true but not the intent behind it. Vex'ahlia ultimately rejected Sauntor's gift, but his bow lives on. So Saundors fate is to be forgotten, to be an obstacle overcome.

4) Kevdack: Easily the best encounter both thematically and how the combat turned out. Kevdack will go down as legend for how Vox Machina defeated him in the stories the bards shall sing about them. But Kevdak is a cautionary tell and how he lived his life shows this. Kevdak attempted to gain and conglomerate power but every time he did someone more powerful showed up. His Brother, The Dragon, Grog.

Even with all those men around him, Grog was able to kill him.

Delilah Briarwood: A powerful Magic User Delilah lost her husband and through dark and terrible means brought him back. Already a Necromatic Wizard, Delilah thought that she could control death. And for a time she did, using the people of Whitestone as her puppets. I find Irony in her death, her undead husband dead, she attempted one last time to create an undead minion (Vex'ahlia) and failed. In her final hour all the knowledge, preparation and skill she had acquired and used failed her. A terrible fate for a wizard, a worse fate for a desperate one, not being able to rely on anything, knowing that your end is near. She may have been a heartless b*tch, but a fate such as that is truly no fate at all.

I'll make this last part brief because the events are so fresh in our minds.

The Dragons - with the exception of I believe Umbrasyl and General Kreig, The Chroma Conclave died by being given a taste of their own medicine so to speak.

Vorgugal the Frigid Doom was out hunted, so determined to prove he was the best predator, he fell into a trap just like his prey.

Thordak the Cinder King, died just as how many kings do. In their castle, an army at their gates. His power and mind corrupted.

Raishan the Diseased Deciever, so cunning and ruthless. Always the ones making plans, depending on her mind to make up for her weakened stature. One spell from the woman who's people's deaths she called and all those plans were forgotten. Her mind gone and lost. That's all I have. I just found it curious last night that so many of Vox Machina's enemies, so strong and cunning, have died in a way that almost seems shameful when compared to their personalities.

Anyways, I'd love to hear what you all think about this, am I looking to deeply into it. Am I off on a few points? Would love to hear your opinion!

Edit: From the comments:

Umbrasyl the Hope Devourer: After Subjugating an entire town he was later killed by those that he had oppressed (Vox Machina The Herd of Storms). His death comes with a sense of irony since he was the first dragon to die from the Conclave so he brought hope that defeating the Conclave could be possible. The Dragon that devoured hope, became a symbol that hope was possible, isn't that a kick in the dragon nutsack! (Thank you to /u/my1coolaccount and /u/throwaway102351345)
