This is a bit more random than what everyone is currently talking about, but if anyone else here is a fan of Documentary Now!, not only is this current season great, but this week's episode "Trouver Frisson" was a wonderful parody of Agnes Varda (with a bit of a play on Godard/French New Wave in general). Complete with a faux Cinรฉ Tamaris title card ๐
Since the first season of the show, Documentary Now! has parodied quite a few legendary films that are available in the Criterion catalog, and they've always done a great job (in fact, more recently Criterion has even included corresponding Documentary Now! episodes on their releases of Salesman and Original Cast Album: Company).
But oh my god, this Varda send up is just absolutely perfect! She's become a very favorite artist of mine in the last year or so, and I think this episode really captures her as a person as well as a filmmaker. Specifically, it does such a fantastic job at dialing in on her quirky approach to storytelling and her larger than life celebration of life.
If you like Agnes Varda at all, it's definitely worth checking this out, even if you're not currently into Documentary Now! โบ๏ธ
