I think he’s a director who deserves a spot or two in the collection. Anyone else agree? He’s incredibly important to Fifth Generation Chinese filmmaking, plus his movies are really good. Profound criticisms of post-Mao China.
If you haven’t seen any of them, I’d recommend Red Sorghum, Raise the Red Lantern, and Hero.
