Just revisited this beaut, and now I’m curious about how you all think of its political leaning. Through a contemporary lens, the staunch message of patriotism could be interpreted as a rightist, conservative one. Historically, however, Daniel Webster was a member of the Whig party whose commitment to social reform and strong federal government aligns with today’s leftist ideologies. Thoughts?
Besides this, I’d love to see a blu-ray update to this movie with all three of the known, released cuts. As well as some more about Walter Huston.
