Hi all,
I love going to Hobby Lobby and Michael's, etc. and getting paper-craft stuff: colored and decorated paper, STICKERS, ephemera, stamps, etc. But I don't actually do a lot with them. Part of it is because I feel like if no one will see it, then it's not worth doing. That's why I only use the stuff when I'm decorating a pen pal letter, or making a scrapbook for a friend. But I'd like to make collages, zines, journals maybe, etc...but I don't feel like anyone would be interested in looking at what I make, so why bother?
Does anyone else experience this, and if so, how do you approach it? Do you think, "well, my primary purpose is to make things for other people to enjoy," or, "you have to learn to do it for yourself first!" I have a friend who says you should make art primarily to please yourself, but I don't get a lot out of that if I have no one to show. I'm not sure if this is an attention-seeking problem, or just a natural desire to share with others. Any thoughts?
