I hate resort tourism, what is authentic about Cozumel?
Post Body

I (23 male) am visiting Cozumel the first week of March with my parents (both 59).

While I am well traveled (this will be my 25th country) my parents aren’t as much but they have been to Cozumel about two decades ago.

They both rant and rave about this island and tell the same stories every year about how a lion almost bit my dads hand off, and they broke down in the middle of the jungle and guys with knifes saved them. (Honestly they’re both boomers and I love them but I’m a gay guy in his 20s that’s is more into city life and cosmopolitan culture)

I myself am more of a city person but can appreciate countryside. I hate hate hate the idea of being in a resort which is why I booked a regular boutique hotel in the city. I don’t like being waited on hand a foot by locals. Just feels elitist and weird.

What is something that you recommend that isn’t too touristy? Or should I just embrace the tourism that comes with the island?
