My question for the Reddit universe:
I have a new co-worker that has been there for a few weeks now. I thought I'd put forth some effort to get to know them a bit, to be friendly and approachable, so tried to start a conversation.
When I asked how the rest of their evening was the night before after leaving work, They said "good, played with my dogs"
So I said, Oh, nice, what are their names? And he shook his head no.
I thought out loud, "you don't want to tell me their names?" He just said, nope.
So Im curious why anyone would respond that way?
Are there people out there that just genuinely wish to be so incredibly private that I overstepped a boundary by curiously asking about their pets names??
I'm just trying to get an understanding of the situation so that I can try to get to know this person without further shut downs. In my entire life, I've never met someone who didn't want to talk about their fur-babies
..
I tend to be private at work. This is the type of thing I wouldn't actually consider invasive but I would definitely avoid alot of other questions about what I do on vacations or on weekends etc
