I have a coworker who is 45. I met him at work and he got fired after a few months because he just stopped coming. I ran into him somewhere and he said he hasn't bothered to reapply to the same job again, because he thinks they won't hire him back. It's been a few months since he got fired and he still hasn't found a job. He told me what his hobbies are and he said that he loves going to the movie theatres and has the A list subscription to watch 3 movies a week.
I did some thinking and realized something. He has an old phone and he said he doesn't have a phone plan and just uses wifi. He doesn't have an app to make calls. I said, "How do you make calls then?" He said, "I don't have anyone to call." He eats fast food all the time like cheeseburgers and doesn't cook his own meals. I dug deeper and asked if he has a gym membership, credit card, library card, or driver's license. He said that he doesn't have any of those. I asked him if he has any friends and he said no. I asked if he would want to be friends with our coworkers and he said, "I wouldn't be bothered." I said, "Why not get a library card? It's free." He said, "I wouldn't bother." Is he just lazy or is there something else?
