As per usual its Relodwire here, leading the Cowboys War Room. Big shoutout to Bbielby and Am3n for the work they did on the big board and to everyone else for helping make picks. When I tell you guys the board did not break friendly for us I mean it with all my heart. This was worst case scenario for sure. So lets get to it!
1.24 - George Karlaftis, EDGE, Purdue - We got wiped at WR and iOL here but we settled on a top 5 edge rusher in the class. Hes a pure pass rusher with good explosion and and strong hands. He loves to bull rush and his body is NFL ready already. He helps soften the loss of Randy, despite being a different kind of rusher.
2.56 - Jalen Tolbert, WR, South Alabama - Tolbert is a silky smooth route runner with good speed. He will help make up for when Gallup is gone and put us right back into contention for best WR group in the league. He knows how to change his speed to get open and deals with grabby coverage very well. A great addition to the WR after being wiped out at LB and Safety
3.88 - Ed Ingram, OG, LSU - Ed Ingram is a strong G with a solid base. He has strong hands and deals with stunts well. He should be a day 1 starter for us and help build the line back up to the force it was years ago.
4.129 - Otito Ogbonnia, NT, UCLA - Osa worked out so well for us so far we decided to get his old running mate at UCLA. Otito is a fat daddy NT that we have been dying to figure out for years. Hes a very stocky built tackle with great length to go with it. He has explosive hips and is very capable of wreaking havoc in the A gap while bringing a little bit of bullrush in the passing game.
5.155 - D’Marco Jackson, LB, Appalachian State - We didnt like waiting until the 5th to address LB but we feel we got a very talented player still. He deals with blocks well and has good instincts in the run game. He also brings good speed to carry targets down field and challenges the catch well. A willing special teamer too means he will find a place on this team for the long term no matter what.
5.167 - Brian Robinson, RB, Alabama - With TPs deal set to end at the end of the season we decided to look to the future a bit with this pick. While he isnt the fastest in the short game he does have a little shiftyness to him and once he gets running he is hard to stop. Good buildup speed and strong legs makes him a good player to spell Zeke and TP and then maybe take over moving forward.
5.176 - Erik Ezukanma, WR, Texas Tech - One of the Cowboys biggest issues on offense for years has been the red zone. Well. Here comes Eazy E with the skillset to fix that and to make our offense a lot more vertical. He is a big-bodied WR that goes up and takes the ball. Sound familiar? He is good after the catch too so could help with our screen game as well.
5.178 - Isaiah Thomas, EDGE, Oklahoma - You can never have too much pass rush. We took Thomas because the value there was just too much to pass up. He has patient hands and he knows how to use them. Good bend and good speed build-up allows him to slide by tackles with ease. He will be a good addition to our pass rush rotation moving forward.Â
6.193 - Brad Hawkins, S, Michigan - I feel so dirty for waiting so long for a safety. Value just was never there unfortunately, so we took our token 6th round cowboys safety. Brad is a willing and aggressive tackler in run support. Hawkins hasnt played a ton of zone coverage but he is a solid player in man coverage.Â
