Just to make it clear, I understand that I might (and probably will) get downvoted to depths of hell for this, but I accept that possibility, as well as full responsibility for my words, whatever my punishment may be.β

Obviously LC sucks big time for all of us (even more for some than others), but throughout months that I've spent on this subreddit I couldn't help but notice a certain pattern. Most people who try to share a small glimmer of positivity, and support the possibility that recovery can happen - get attacked and told that false hope is very harmful and that they shouldn't be saying such things, while people who constantly fear monger and make sure to scare as many already terrified and exhausted people as possible - get away with actually harmful behavior.β

One of the comments I've stumbled upon today just takes the cake, truly.According to this comment, "The virus climbs long thin neurons that extend from the nasal cavities to the olfactory bulb inside the brain" and that "Many people are experiencing sudden cardiac arrest for this reason". Who are these many people? Where can we learn more about them? Where is legitimate scientific evidence that can actually confirm this information and allow us to use it as a weapon against skeptics and doctors that gaslight us? Because as of right now, all I see is just cruel fear mongering that's giving people even more anxiety and panic than they need at this point in time.β

Any statement that begins with "I've read somewhere that..." or "Many people are..." should simply not be allowed unless they can be backed up with links to evidence or other helpful sources that we can all see, read, study, and use it to spread awareness. I'm very grateful to this subreddit for the support it provided in my time of need, but the amount of baseless fear mongering and all the talk of "inevitable brain damage" and "sudden death" is just pure torture. Truly. If long covid doesn't kill me, then this madness surely will.

a gentle reminder:
Rule 3 - "No fear mongering. You can talk about your experiences, but no doom posting or trying to scare people."
THIS!!! I only pop onto this sub once in a while now in case but itβs so full of toxic people like the ones youβve described that the sub itself can just make you sicker.
