Hi, I'll be moving to London soon and considering hosting. Is it worth signing up for a Couchsurfing account given all the stories about how the website has gone downhill, dark patterns, etc? If I do sign up, how many requests should I expect in a week? How are the other platforms compared to Couchsurfing? I understand these are naive questions, but I have never used them before and would love to get some opinions. Thanks.
Would definitiely use couchsurfing if you want to host people - you will get a lot of requests in London so be clear about what you can offer and the type of travelers you want to host. If you are able to host, you will meet some amazing people and have some great experiences. The paywall hasn't made that much difference and probably reduced the amount of users who aren't genuine.
Unfortunately in popular cities like London you do get alot of copy and paste requests from people who haven't read your profile, but they are easy to filter if you ask any surfers to answer a question on your profile in their request and if they don't or don't sound like their stay will work with your personal preferences, just decline their request with a saved message like "Sorry, I won't be able to host you as I'm busy during that time, hope you have a great time in London."
