Anxiety flare ups.. why?

So I understand that our symptoms themselves are anxiety inducing, yet, I don’t understand why anxiety can cause a flare up. I was watching a horror movie and during a tense scene began to feel everything flare up. Does anyone know why this occurs? Anxiety first, then a flare up
