[Help] lightweight materials to create a sword?

I've got a comic con style event coming up in April and I wanted to cosplay as kirito from sword art online. I have all the designs and plans ready but because of safety regulations I don't know any materials that I could create my swords out of that will fit the regulations but also not break. I plan to use a laser cutter to cut all of the materials if that helps anybody. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
