I've had bronze corys for a few years but can never seem to raise the fry beyond 2 weeks old. I'm wondering if it is possibly my water parameters. My understanding is that they come from soft water environments. My tap water is pretty soft. My tank water looks something like this: pH: ~7.4 GH: 2 KH: 2 Temp: 72 Nitrates: varies between ~40ppm Ammonia, nitrites: always 0
Would they benefit from softer water using an RO filter? Lower pH and GH? The adults are so healthy. Active, eat well. My guy is telling me I'm doing something wrong with the fry, but I want to check about water parameters first.
Are you trying to raise them in the main tank? I'm not an expert, but I have successfully hatched and raised probably close to 100 Corydoras.
I collect the eggs, put them in a netted breeder box, let them hatch there, and then feed baby brine shrimp after they hatch, and transfer them to a nursery tank.
My water parameters are far from perfect.
In fact, before I started this routine, I had some Corydoras fry hatch, and get sucked up into my canister filter. Went to clean my canister filter out, and about a dozen juvenile Corydoras came out the drain spout into the bucket. So they're pretty resilient little buggers. They lived and grew in the filter for months.
