So I'm sure like many of you, I grew up a Pokémon fan and have gotten bored andþor disappointed with the last several generations of the game.
I recently tried Monster Sanctuary and absolutely loved it. I love how streamlined it is, the metroidvania style exploration is engaging, and the 3v3 style battles add an interesting element where it's not just attacking.
I tried the demo on Android. I haven't gotten very far at all. It looks great, but it seems to still be that slower pace that kind of bored me about Pokémon. Is that any better in the final release? Is this an evolution of Pokémon, or just an interpretation of the older games?
I played Pokémon blue as a middle schooler in ‘98. I played and finished Coromon this summer.
To me, Coromon is the experience of 1st gen Pokémon with a huge amount of QoL changes.
If you don’t like Pokémon for pacing, you probably would have similar concerns here. Just a guess.
I actually enjoyed Monster Sanctuary also, but less than Coromon, as I found the reliance on buff/de buff/status effects to be really unwieldy for the combat encounters. But the side scrolling style was great.

Yeah, non-random encounters was a great feature in Sanctuary. Knowing precisely where to go to find a specific monster also has pros and cons.
I spent several hours with my 11 year old stepdaughter farming a specific Perfect Coromon, and had a great time. But I completely understand that that’s not going to appeal to everyone equally.
