Hi all!
Requisite first time poster info here.
I have a cardigan named Dobby who is 4-years-old and very chill. Hubby and I live in a 1,000-square-foot apartment with Dobby, and I am pregnant (4 months) with our first child. I'm looking for any information about how to prepare Dobby for a baby that you might have. Any anecdotes from people who have had a baby join the family and meet the corgi would be helpful, too!
I've read a few articles about this and have some plans. I intend to walk Dobby with the stroller when we get one because he does have some problems with wheeled objects. And I'm going to send home an item of clothing with baby's scent on it after delivery to teach Dobby the scent is something that is normal and should not cause anxiety. I'll likely have my dad do this because Dobby lived with my parents for a little while after hubby and I married. And my other plan is to bring baby home and have Dobby come out of the apartment to sniff the diaper bag, listen to baby noises, and maybe smell the carseat that baby has been in to "greet" baby on neutral territory.
Other than those things, is there anything else you would suggest I do to help acclimate Dobby to having a new baby in the home? He's typically been very well mannered around children (toddlers and older) but has no experience with infants. And, of course, I don't intend to have him and baby on the same level for quite a long time to avoid any negative reactions at first.
Anyway, any advice you could give would be very welcome! Thank you!
