All off season all you hear around A&M is “all those recruits to just go 8-4”. I find that to be incredibly lazy. Jimbo took over a relative dumpster fire from Sumlin. Going 9-4 and 8-5 the first two years are acceptable since it was pre portal and it takes to overturn a roster and implement your culture. Does everyone forget they went 9-1 and won the Orange Bowl? With the only loss being against a Bama team many people consider to be one of the best ever. Yeah they went 8-4 last year with their backup QB for 95% of the year. That guy might not start for the team projected to finish last in the West. That shows that 8-4 is their floor not the ceiling and as we go forward with them having this ridiculous amount of talent the floor will only get higher. We saw the same thing with Georgia, people ignored how well they recruited and just hung on a lazy narrative “well they can’t win the big one”. When you recruit that well it’s when not if they breakthrough.
Edit: I am not an A&M fan
