Post Body

The sabal genus of palm dominates the native palm population in the US. Palm trees are natively located in: Hawaii, California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, viriginia , and surprisingly, Oklahoma. Hawaii has the same amount of native palms as Oklahoma: 1. Yes. 1. When I first read that, it blew my mind! It blew my mind so high that it reached the top of the Chinese Windmill Palm, which can grow up to 30ft! Wow! Now isn’t that PALM TREE crazy!?!?! Before settlers arrived on Hawaii were actually 2 species of palm, the second one was brought in by the Polynesians way before. Palm trees have now been imported to all 50 states. Even Alaska. Yes Alaska. Some eastern Asian species can handle the cold climate. Florida has the most native palm species at 12 (I think), then followed by Texas. People seem to love their palm trees! It is also disputed whether or not Nevada or Virginia actually have native palm species, we’re not sure if settlers moved them up there. Palm trees are a broad-leaves species of evergreen, which is awesome. They’re like pine trees, but with broad leaves. In fact, @christmas deg you are right! Palm trees are BAD at being trees! They’re not really made of wood. It’s more of a spongy, light material that’s very bendy, suitable for hurricane weather. They are extremely versatile, located on every continent except for... well. I’m sure you can guess. They can be found in LITERALLY the dryest, hottest, deserts on earth and the WETTEST terrain on earth. In Europe, they can really only be found in the Mediterranean area. Anyways, that’s pretty much all I have for today tbh. I’m all out of palm tree facts. Maybe sometime this week I’ll write about temperate rainforests
