We are seeking Canadian citizens only.
We need two or more provinces to incorporate. Presently, we are going with Ontario and Quebec. We are looking in Ottawa and Gatineau in particular.
I am working with a roommate's friend to make a worker-owned, worker-run tutoring and editing cooperative.
We will provide students with assistance in as many subjects as we will have tutors for. We will provide writers with editing services tailored to suit their needs and budgets.
We might monetize the website we will use with select advertisement banners. Cooperatives will get priority placing and pay a discounted rate.
We will provide members with a fulfilling and honest income stream; discounts on tutoring and editing; and, possibly, personal and company reserves from which to draw upon saved dividends and/or common capital when the company or member encounters low service demand.
If you are at least 18 years old, there is a chance you can join as a founder out of high school, even.
I am a recent university graduate and want to leverage my degree to earn at least part of my living. I can bring tutoring in philosophy, psychology, anthropology, and English to the company. I can also do some editing and perform some of the administrative and marketing functions.
We already have an information technology person. They can probably tutor coding at an introductory level, too.
We require you to have a grade of at least 80% in the subject(s) you intend to tutor. Prior tutoring experience is an asset, not a necessity. As for editing, prior experience is an asset, but you need only pass a basic spelling and grammar test to qualify for consideration.
Being multiply capable is an asset, not a necessity. The least you need to be able to do (to be considered for membership) is tutor at least one subject and/or provide one or more editing services.
Bilingualism (French and English) or multilingualism (French, English, and x-language) is an asset, not a necessity.
If you can tutor economics and can propagate the cooperative economic model (the values, principles, incentives, and positive externalities), then you can almost consider yourself to be a founding member already. Of course, we still have to check if we all get along and can work well together. Hence, I say "almost".
If all goes well, at some point in the future, this proposed cooperative could become the foundation for a cooperative publishing company and blogging network and/or a cooperative (graduate-, faculty-, and staff-owned and operated) college/university.
You can consider this an AMA. Feel free to direct message me or comment here. My colleagues or I will try to get back to you before long.
