Can you put blue cheese in a salad?

I've been experimenting with blue cheese. Recently made a blue cheese butter sauce which went great on top of a grilled chicken breast. I was wondering if you can put blue cheese on a salad to substitute salad dressing? I mean obviously it can be done, but I've asked friends and family and they looked at me crazy. Anyone do this?
