I bought Control on day one. I loved Alan Wake so much. I enjoyed Quantum break. Max Payne was great.
Control just didn't click. I think in the span since release I must have restarted it maybe 4-5 times because it had been so long on between play throughs. I found the map hard to read and therefore getting to places confusing and overwhelming. The upgrade and mod system seemed inaccessible. I understand that a lot of this was because I was not very invested in playing the game.
When Alan Wake 2 was announced I couldn't wait. But I felt that I'd enjoy it more if I finished Control since it's part of the connected universe. I tried again and just didn't really feel motivated.
Then a few days ago I got to "Old Boys' Club." The. Everything started falling into place. I had a better appreciation of the combat, I was actively seeking every file and reading everything. I got the modding system! I know it's a basic thing but it just kind of felt intuitive now. I stopped dying in most encounters. Just finished getting black rock prism and I am so hooked.
Just wanted to share. I love narrative driven games and had heard such great things about Control but didn't get it until now. Instead of rushing to finish it to get to Alan Wake 2 I'm wanting to soak in all the lore and side quests.
