Is it safe to wear recently expired contacts?

I use monthly contacts and I haven't worn my current ones very much, I opened and started using them on July 20th and have worn them probably 6-7 times during the time between then and now, the rest they have been sitting in my case.
Is it fine to wear them or should I open up a new pair?
