9/11 post #3: artists, students, spies & ...gelatin
Post Body

In this post I'll be examining the potential Israeli "art student spy ring" that operated in the US in the months before 9/11. Only a few news outlets including Salon, and Le Monde ever comment on this spy ring and it's later revealed that reporting on these topics would result in the loss of their career. We'll also take a look at the art groups Gelatin and E-Team.

"Not one big success of the Mossad has ever been made public." ---- Ephraim Halvey (2001)

I. Israeli "art student spy ring":

The first report of an Israeli spy ring came from a DEA document, suggesting an Israeli unit has been in the US since Jan. 2000 at least.

  1. 3/23/2001: DEA issues alert to look out for Israeli spies. The Office of National Drug Control Policy issues a National Security Alert describing "apparent attempts by Israeli nationals to learn about government personnel and office layouts. This alert becomes available through a leaked DEA document titled "Suspicious Activities Involving Israeli Art Students at DEA Facilities." It's thought the arrests and detention of approx. 120 Israelis in June of 2001 occurs because of this document.

  2. 6/2001: DEA makes report on Israeli spies. This is a 60 pg memo made up of dozens of field reports and meant for senior officials within the Justice Department. The report concerns an alleged Israeli "art student spy ring" and reveals the following; a. Spies trying to foil the investigation of ectasy importation. b. That spies are snooping around top secret military bases. c. 4/30/2001: An Air Force Alert from Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City concerns the collection of intelligence by Israeli "art students." (AWACS surveillance craft and stealth bombers are housed at Tinker AFB).

  3. 6/2001 - 9/11/2001: An additional 20 alleged Israeli spies are apprehended.

  4. 11/23/2001: The Washington Post reports at least 60 Israelis are apprehended and detained on immigration charges since 9/11. An INS agent at this time says the phrase "special interest" refers to the detention of Israelis in relation to the 9/11 investigation.

  5. 12/16/2001: Fox News removes controversial story. In response to pressure from several institutions including; JINSA, CAMERA, and ADL Fox News removes it's story about an "art student spy ring." The story is removed by other news outlets and in some cases formal repudiations and corrections are made. The story doesn't make a splash in the mainstream but does in the government. A DEA comment from 12/18/2001 mentions the Fox report and of security breaches that match the Fox report.

  6. 3/5/2002: The proximity of Israeli spies to the 9/11 hijackers is revealed. a. Hollywood, Florida - 5 Israelis are intercepted. This is the same location 4 hijackers are known to have spent time. The closeness of these individuals can be measured in hundreds of feet. In one case Israeli spies lived at 4220 Sheridan St. Mohamed Atta lived at 3389 Sheridan St. b. It's said Israeli spies were in close proximity to at least 10 of the 19 9/11 hijackers.

  7. 3/6/2002: Israeli spy ring denied by the US government. A Washington Post article denies the existence of an Israeli spy ring, saying a wide array of US officials deny it, and Susan Dryden, a spokesperson for the Justice Dept. Calls the spy ring an "urban myth," that the "department has no information... To substantiate... Reports about Israeli art students involved in espionage. The New York Times does not cover the story. Jane's Intelligence Digest says "it's rather strange that the US media seems to be ignoring what may well be the most explosive story since the 11 September attacks - the alleged breakup of a major Israeli espionage operation in the U.S.A."

  8. 3/11/2002: Israeli "students" linked to military, intelligence. A DEA study reported by a newspaper (palm beach post?) Claims the "art students" we're determined to have recent ties to the Israeli military, most in intelligence, electric signal intercept, or explosive ordnance units.

  9. 3/15/2001: Forward, (magazine) claims Israelis spied in US on radical Muslims. Forward magazine reversed an earlier claim and says there in fact was an Israeli spy ring operating in the US. They however make the claim that we're spying on a common enemy in the US, "radical Islamic networks suspected of links to middle east terrorism.

  10. 5/7/2002: Explosives found on illegal Israelis. Oak Harbor, Washington, a moving truck is pulled over in the middle of the night for speeding (close to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station {home to Prowler jets}). A bomb sniffing dog detected explosives on the men in the truck, which turns out to be TNT on the gearshaft and RDX on the steering wheel. One of the men has entered the country illegally and the other has an altered passport. These men are then cleared, and the FBI claims the dog false hit on the men from residue from a cigarette lighter. Should be noted that vans appear to be the common mode of transportation and movement by this spy ring. The Seattle FBI office holding evidence will be broken into a few weeks later.

  11. 5/2004: More Israelis arrested and more moving vans. a. 5/9/2004: two Israeli men in Tennessee are arrested after a high speed chase. They have false documents. b. 5/27/2004: two Israeli men are arrested trying to enter an Atlanta military base. Explosives are possibly detected in their van.

  12. Was the Israeli "art student spy ring" a smoke screen? A government source suggests to Salon that the "art students" were a smoke screen and meant to be caught, allowing others to complete their missions while the DEA was wrapped up with others (Gelatin {although Austrian} and E-Team?) (Monitoring of the hijackers is another potentiality) This theory could possibly be backed up by the apparent sloppiness/boldness of the operation by one of the premier intelligent agencies in the world.

Other notes: 1. It's alleged hundreds of incidents occur between Israeli "students" either selling or delivery art to members of the government. 2. Most of these incidents occur in either Florida or Texas. 3. The National Counterintelligence Center issued an alert, this alert included; the fact that both males and females were participating in these events, the events precipitated from the attempt to either sell or deliver art, and they represent themselves as foreign students. 4. The NCC would add that the students had been described as aggressive and more interested in security and entry access than they did actually selling or delivering art. 5. These "students" eventually started going to the private residences of senior government officials.... And tried the exact same thing. 6. Two of these "students" are arrested in Texas. Their visas and green cards are counterfeits. 7. 10/2/???? Houston, KHOU-TV reports two guys are caught sneaking into federal bldgs. And defense sites. 8. Dallas, Dallas FBI Bldg. , Drug Enforcement Administration , and the Earle Cabell Federal Bldg. All had apparent contact with these "students." a. The Earle Cabell Federal Bldg. Guards found a "student" wandering the halls with a floor plan of the building. 9. In the fall of 2002, Die Zeit, a German liberal weekly based in Hamburg published a report that concluded "between December 2000 and April 2001 a whole horde of Israeli counter terror investigators, posing as students, followed the trails of Arab terrorists and their cells in the United States."

II. Amdocs, Ltd. & Comverse Infosys & Telrad:

  1. These are two private Israeli telecommunications companies, which together handle virtually all the billing records and government wiretaps in the US. It's been claimed they essentially have access to every call in the USA (report from Fox News: 12/12/2001 - 12/15/2001).

  2. Many "student" held positions at Amdocs, Ltd. Or other Israeli wiretapping companies.

  3. Amdocs, Ltd. Had a role in the mid-1990s instillation of the new White House communications system. Several employees are said to have had access, unsupervised access to White House telephone lines and other sensitive communications equipment.

  4. An article published by Insight titled "FBI Probes Espionage at Clinton White House" confirms investigators we're looking into an Israeli operation to spy on top US officials via secured telephone networks.

  5. According again to Insight, the FBI were tracking a a businessman whose wife was thought to be a Mossad agent. In his office several sensitive phone numbers including black lines were discovered.

  6. Another Israeli company named Telrad, that was subcontracted by a company called Nortel developed a communications system for the White House. In a report by the London Sunday Times, this was used by Israeli intelligence to get data leaving the White House.

  7. The connections between several communications companies: Koor (parent company) owned 80% of Telrad, the other 20% was owned by Nortel. Nortel was in a marketing partnership with Comverse Infosys.

  8. Local, state, and federal law enforcement officials say that "electronic surveillance capabilities are less effective today" than they were before Comverse Infosys was brought into the US.

  9. Comverse Infosys also has a history with government officials being employees by the company. Some of these asked to work for Comverse Infosys have been said to have been asked to leave government service under "troubling circumstances." Certain suspects involved in this began to change their activities and behavior dramatically right after supposed wire tapping has begun, indicating foreknowledge.

III. Gelatin and E-Team:

A. Gelatin

  1. Gelatin was/is an Austrian art group consisting of four artists. In the 2005 they changed their name.

  2. 3/2000: Gelatin begins their project "The B-Thing." This project occurs on the 91st floor of the WTC1. They removed a window, built a small balcony, and had a helicopter take pictures. Gelatin had an attorney to guide them and ensure they followed all legal processes.

  3. It should be noted that Gelatin and E-Team were selected to be part of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. This permitted them to live and work in the WTC1 and work on several floors, including 91 and 92. They were also given 7 day a week construction access, allowing them to move in materials at will. These group had this access and living quarters potentially up to four years before 9/11.

  4. "The B-Thing" book. Currently I found 8 copies only between Amazon and eBay between $800 and $10,000). There are several pictures and diagrams and sketches from the book that are available online, and they contain some weird things to say the least.

  5. "The B-Thing" pictures. I found three pictures showing a various number of people inside the WTC1. In one pic: there is one person, looking out the window, no face is showing. In a second pic: there are two people, looking out the window, no faces are seen. In a third pic: 3 people, none showing face, one is wearing a harness.

  6. In these pictures, what appears to me to be empty flattened boxes labeled BB-18 are seen, they almost appear to form a floor to ceiling wall. These boxes correspond with the product "Littlefuse electrical 3-phase fuse holders." Now I'm a bio guy so I can't speak much to them myself and I've read different things about them. (I do not think these were used in direct concert with a controlled demolition, but have read they could be used to set cable inputs and control the timing of a controlled demolition {?}).

  7. "The B-Thing" book sketches. Some of the sketches from the book are available online. In the research for this part, these were the weirdest things I came across. The sketches are crude and don't quite equate to the complexities of the project. The sketches include the balcony they built, another balcony sketch, a sketch of several single towers, a sketch of the towers with a deep cylindrical basement area, a sketch of the towers and an unidentified building, and a sketch of the balcony with a person standing on it, looking down at another person falling, perhaps wearing a cape, with a caption that reads, "300 meters of pure pleasure." These sketches contain very strange notes. Some of the notes include:

    1. "Fill the inside with amazing sight."
    2. "The balcony as ice cream."
    3. "Deepression inside amazement outside." (Depression spelled wrong)
    4. "We want to brake thru to the amazement from inside." (This note has several words crossed out)
    5. The definition of "to amaze"
    6. "Architectural analysis sketch"
    7. One sketch has a swirl of interrupted f i c k e n
    8. "Fluffy clouds" labeled "happiness" (possibly resembling smoke)
    9. "300 meters of pure pleasure"
    10. "Last chance to open a parachute"
    11. One sketch has the towers and larger cylinderbasement area with 13 labels, some including; a. "Bird I buried" b. "Oil" c. "Hole to escape shame" d. "Diamonds"
    12. At the bottom of one sketch are colors with descriptions next to them that are interesting. a. "2B-Afact" b. "Crimson Red - this was a crime against corporate law" c. "Deco Aqua - it was supposed to stay a matter of taste" d. "French Grey - the woman photographer did it in a French way" e. "Blush - it was a moment of amazing exposure" f. "Sky Blue - the distance was vast at that height" g. "Canary Yellow - everyone was very nervous"
    13. A final sketch shows the towers and a building in front of them from this building two lines extend out and circle the 91st floor.
  8. A 12 min. 56 sec. Lecture is also available online. It was shot or released 12/1/2010 and the presenter is Florian Reither. The lecture explains the project.

  9. All of the sketches and notes appear to be done by the same hand. All of the notes are written in uppercase font. Many words are crossed out within phrases and notes. (I might make a list of all of the crossed out words but won't include it here right now).

  10. A note was also identified as being written by the same hand as the previous sketches and notes. This note is almost incoherent and follows the pattern of containing several crossed out words.

B. E-Team

  1. Another "art team" was present in the WTC, this one called E-Team. E-Team operates in the same general area as Gelatin.

  2. E-Team uses 127 illuminated windows to spell out their name "E-Team." This would be the location the plane would impact in September.

  3. E-Team also ran a project involving creating portraits of people inside the towers while hoovering in a nearby helicopter.

(A third artist: Gecelli, Martina took photographs of abandoned and in disreapair offices).

  1. Possible interesting name parallels.

    1. Gelatin --- a type of explosive medium
    2. E-Team --- Explosive team ??
  2. Possible roles of art groups? If there's a controlled demolition...

    1. Gelatin --- in a controlled demolition , Gelatin could have added nano solgel.
    2. E-Team --- in a controlled demolition, E-Team could have blasted explosives to remove perimeter/outer core.

This was a big one that kinda got away from me. I didn't even have space to include MEGA, the supposed Mossad spy in DC, or the Carl Cameron reports. The next post will be shorter and will primarily be concerned with those two topics. We also gotta get to the Dancing Israelis. As a final thought it's interesting to note Israel never really got in board with intelligence sharing across countries. This makes it harder and potentially riskier for Israel to gain secrets from the US. Luckily for them they have one of the best intelligence agencies in the world, the Mossad, which improvise and creates informal networks as it goes, as seen with the Israeli "art students."
