Debunking conspiracies
Post Body

I have noticed there are a lot of conspiracy theorists on this site spreading fake news and mis and disinformation which can be a danger to health as well as a danger to democracy. I feel it is our duty to nip this in the bud.

I'd like to start with the wild conspiracy theory that cigarettes cause cancer. Leaked information from a source which I cannot disclose suggests this misinformation originated in Russia (or China). But far from an innocent conspiracy theory, this has now become a national security risk as it poses a threat to taxes levied on the tobacco industry which help to pay for military spending. Let's be clear here - Cigarettes are good for your health. Especially unfiltered Camel brand, used and recommended by most doctors.

While on the subject I have also noticed claims circulating about the drug Thalidomide, a tranquiliser given to pregnant people [sic] to treat morning sickness. These claims also appear to originate from paid Russian activists on internet sites and once again amount to nothing more than wild conspiracy theories. I'm sure much more could be added to this list...
