I'm going to try my hand at a direct line of questions, all meant to be in good faith; Targeted for those here who subscribe to some variant of idealism. Others of non-physicalist/materialist backgrounds would also be welcome. I am a physicalist myself, but I'm giving open dialogue a shot since snarky back and forths ultimately degrade the quality of the subreddit.
What lead you to your current stance on philosophy of mind?
What implications do you believe your metaphysics has for us as living beings and the universe at large?
Why do you think physicalists hold the position that they do?
Do you believe working academics are as engaged in the physicalism vs non-physicalism debate as many of those here seem to be?
Do you think non-physicalist views are suppressed, if yes, then by whom?
What, if any, weaknesses do you think your metaphysics have?
Are there any points physicalists make that you agree with, or at least find hard to refute?
If this is too many questions, then feel free to answer however many as you'd like.
Thanks!
