Hello everyone! I've got an exiting new idea for an ergative split. I've read a lot about ergativity but I've never seen any (split-)ergative language act like I will describe, so I assume I'm the first to think of it.
There are many different types of splits: by aspect, clause type, or animacy are just three examples. But nowhere have I seen this: a split based on argument. In my new conlang, Mitsprákãgerditšugèr, the transitive subject is marked accusatively, and the transitive object is marked ergatively.
There are three cases: absolutive (marked by -är), ergative (-in), and accusative (-akk). Examples:
Vafa-n-är det-h-är förn-åt.
wolf-PL-ABS man-PL-ABS attack-PST
"The wolves attacked the men."
Det-är skämtlugnaner-dig.
man-ABS sleep-PRE
"The man sleeps."
So what do you think? Positive criticism only please :)
