Setirilo's new compounding rules
Post Body

You can create compound words out of ordinary Setirilo words, but there are a few rules as to what you can and cannot do. For example, there’s something called the compounding order, which is the order you place words in order to compound them. If you wanted, you could create a sentence out of compounded words, but that’s a little over the top. Here it is:

  1. Quantity—how many people/things are there? A group? A lot? A lot lot? If there’s only one, omit this.

  2. Quality—subjectively, are they good or bad at what they do? Omit this if you don’t care, or use an adjective to describe quality that modifies this word as a noun.

  3. Activity—what is it doing? This generally cannot be omitted. Note that you ought to change around the tense of the verb to more accurately show what time it happens. If it always has happened and always will happen (EG squares have four sides, always have had four sides, and will always have four sides) then use the infinitive.

  4. Direct object—what is the activity happening to? This is generally used only to create passive sentences (EG surala’autækis is “the dogs that are beaten). Use se if the subject is doing it to themselves.

  5. Subject—who is doing the activity? Even if you used a quantity in the first slot, be sure to put this into the singular when you enter it into a dictionary or begin to mess around with it so you can get an accurate stem.

  6. Agent/Instrument—what/who is the subject using to do the action to the direct object (EG I whacked him with a stick, I talked to him through Jimmy, I had Jimmy talk to him)

  7. Location—where did it happen? Note that in this context, kasa usually means “building” and cempo means “place.”

Here are some nifty examples--

tenkitiomelekasa to thank-god-song-house "A building (in which) God was/will always be thanked by song" A place of worship for a single deity.

mækisakaripiopipaliosakaripilocampo good-to write (Future)-books-scribe-place "A place (that) will be good for scribes to write books" Possibly a library or study that is being built or planned.

limamækiteroresakaripiosamerikens handful-good-to fear-pens-Americans "A handful (of) good Americans (who) are afraid of pens" Yeah I don't know.
