Situation: I'm in a jewelry store and robbers with guns come in and are distracted by the jewelry. Can I shoot to kill them? (California)

Post Body

I've been seeing a lot of robberies in the news lately with some of the robbers are pointing guns at the cashiers/people in the store. I've seen videos in the past where a robbery can go wrong and even after the robbers take the goods, they might still shoot anyways. Or stories where when the police arrive, they start to take hostages.

So technically the best chance of ensuring those situations don't happen would be to wait until they're distracted and shoot them. They wouldn't be posing any immediate threat to me in the moment but I would still be fearing that things can go wrong afterwards. I wouldn't shoot them as they were fleeing, but in the middle of the robbery.

What kind of charges would I expect against me? Is this something California prosecutors/jurors would most likely find me guilty for?
