Mechanical Engineer seeking help - Want to apply CV to my capstone project, please help!

Hey reddit!
For my capstone project, I plan to use a CV setup to detect some visual defects on objects moving on a conveyor and somehow integrate that with an Arduino environment.
However having no experience with computer vision I am feeling clueless as to where to start with the learning process, I have acquired a suitable training set from Kaggle but beyond that, I have no clue as to how to proceed and could use someone's help!
