So I'm in a graduate level computer networking class and I've come across some different usages of the word "base". I'm sure most people have heard of a "database", but what's the difference between a "database" and an "information base"? Are there other kinds of "bases"? Also, what's the origin of the use of "base" in computing? I couldn't really find much on this, but I'm assuming we can take it literally, for example an army base is where the army stores their troops. So a database is where a computer stores their data. So I guess an information base is where a computer stores their information...??? Thanks for indulging my stupid question :D
